What do you think, is youtube a social network site?

 

I personally think it is. But instead of posting images and text, youtubers post videos.

I think it is as well, I always see the youtube link on sites next to the linkedin, facebook and twitter icons. ;)

 

Anyways the whole idea of a "social networking" site to me is being able to interconnect with people. You can do that view text, music, video or even art IMO.

 

I have a youtube channel, but it's really just our newborn, I always wanted to create some tutorials and post them out to video. (never made time for it)

Depend how you look at this problem. Definitely it generate traffic, if you have good video content you will get a good traffic from it.

You can subscribe to users, add them as friends, and communicate with one another or mass groups of people at a time.

Whatever people share on the web is, by definition, social media. Almost all social media is just "Hey! check out this awesome link/video/pic! You'll ROFL!". If you have a bunch of videos that people like and share... then it's social media and you can use it to drive some traffic.
