Does anyone know of a good base skin that cuts down on the amount of whitespace in IPB3? I did an upgrade to the new software earlier this month and that is by far my biggest complaint.

Can't say that I personally know of one like that. It is a chore to clear out the whitespace when coding for 3.0, that is for sure. If I run across one, I'll let you know  ;)

Can anyone point me to IPB-2 style skins for IPB-3, please? Almost all IPB-3 skins I've come across are variations of the same default theme. I like the default theme for the default, but for an alternative I really wouldn't mind the older style layout. You know, the forum centred, more robust gradients, the things which have made forums stick out from the page. The default skin just has a rather flat look to it. Nothing wrong with that, just not something I'm used to (and I venture a guess that many vB, phpBB, SMF, IPB-2 converts go through a bit of a similar shock period too with the flatness of this skin).

I don't think there are other than the two made by IPS themselves to model the defaults. Either way though, IPB's going to move on, that's what's important.

I've edited the first post because a few of those sites are dead links or no longer supply IPB skins.

 

2 of them were removed because they haven't updated any skins in a while and 1 of them is a scam while the other has no way to buy skins because the shopping cart is broke and has been for a couple years.

 

Sad because the 2 were at one time the best place to buy quality IPB skins.
