  • After some problems in real life I opened it up again. This time for good
  • I've been to your site I think.

So am I. But anyway welcome to the new old IPB Webmaster.
  • I had converted my off topic forum to xenforo from IPB. At the time my users wanted something simple. xenforo fit the bill so I converted. For the first couple weeks things were normal and the members seemed to be pleased. Then the moderators spoke up because some of the tools they needed to do there job like merge posts and users were no longer available. So I decided to convert back to IPB. The process was painless although there was some problems with importing attachments and avatars. These were fixed in later versions of the importer, but, when I did the import I had to use work arounds posted on the IPB forum. It took a couple times to get the import done completely. Once it was complete my mods and admins were happy to have the tools they needed and the members didn't notice a difference. If you've converted to IPB from xenforo share your experiences with us. I'd like to see if you had any problems. If you're thinking about converting from xenforo to IPB then my experience should help to answer any questions you have. Since that 1 conversion I have done a few more for clients.
  • I've edited the first post because a few of those sites are dead links or no longer supply IPB skins. 2 of them were removed because they haven't updated any skins in a while and 1 of them is a scam while the other has no way to buy skins because the shopping cart is broke and has been for a couple years. Sad because the 2 were at one time the best place to buy quality IPB skins.
  • We have something in common. I had a stroke 6 years ago and to this day I still walk with a limp and my right arm is basically useless for anything but small tasks. I understand you had a separate site which you imported the IPB Setup DB I gave you into. I also know you had the hyphenated domain and I had just purchased the ipbadmin.com domain from Bryce and I don't remember where I got the unhyphenated version of ipbwebmaster, but, I do know I did own it. I pushed ipbhelp.me and ipbsetup.com domains to you. I don't remember what I did with the ipbwebmaster and ipbadmin doamins. I do know they expired and I now have them again. I could have got the domain from Brandon because he bought Johns IPB Webmaster site, but, never imported it into here. I did after I bought the place from Brandon. In all honesty, Mike, I thought you'd give it a better effort to keep the site alive. I was not happy when one day the site redirected to AdX. If I had time then I would have done what I just did and would have brought it back right away. Although I had no domain and running it under any other would not have worked. In any case I am going to try to make it go this time. If it doesn't work out then into oblivion it will go. I just can't let it be without at least trying.
  • A company has approached me with the following question: Their website had a pagerank 5 on http, because they receive a lot of personal data from a form on their homepage, they put their website *on https and a 301 redirect from http to https. They are on position one for an competitive keyword. With the last pagerank update, they dropped to pagerank 0. They have a good link profile NO spam links. Their question is whether this is the reason for the decline and is there an solution for the https without the 301?
  • Just like Google, Bing can do take down requests. Check out this blog post. Quote: Microsoft says it does send copyright-related takedown requests to its own search engine, Bing, in addition to the multitude of requests that it sends to Google. This comes on the heels of yesterdays news that Microsoft is the number one submitter of copyright-related URL removal requests to Google. It sent more than 500,000 such requests in the past month, asking Google to remove URLs that host pirated copies of Microsoft products and other copyright-infringing material. TechDirt pointed out that some of the URLs that Microsoft asked Google to remove were still appearing in Bings search results. A Microsoft spokesperson explained that to us today, saying that its because the infringing URLs hadnt been... Continued at: http://searchengineland.com/microsof...ing-too-122498 Your thoughts?
  • Information from Bing's perspective about moving to a new domain: Quote: It makes you want to crawl under a rock. The day your boss comes to you and says Were looking at a new domain name. Can you help us move to it? Worse are the days like that which pass you by because no one ever came to you, and its only in the panic of dwindling search traffic that people darken your door to ask the resident SEOgre what happened. • Hi all, i know i can come here to get good quality advice when i need it. I have launched 2 new blog sites and i have been searching for high pr blogs and commenting and leaving backlinks to my site with keywords etc. The blogs are not relevant content to my site but i have left brief comments and links. Will this hurt my sites or boost them?
  • Be warned, this is very long and I'm not finished reading it yet. Grab a coffee first. Quote: In Keyword Clustering for Maximum Search Profitability we discussed the idea of clustering keywords and how doing so can increase the speed and effectiveness of your link building efforts. The article was based on the principle of passing internal strength between the pages of your website. Today we'll discuss this subject in more detail. Be warned, it'll involve a little bit of math (we are dealing with Google's algorithm after all, so there's almost always going to an element of that). That said, I'm going to do the math for you to provide what's most important, an understanding of why the formulas work and simple ways to determine what needs to be done. If you understand the why, the math essentially does itself. Continued at: http://searchenginewatch.com/article...yword-Clusters Have a look at the blog comments.
  • Take a look at the whole blog post before responding. It's a good blog post to get you thinking. Quote: Now that we've seen entire link building related companies vanish due to Pandas and Penguins and other search quality improvements from Google, my hunch is we will see a surge in freelance or solo link builders who decide to go it alone. I base this hunch on the number of emails I'm receiving from people seeking link building work. Besides those who are working solo, some link building companies are still thriving, doing things well, and looking for talent. But the days of being a half-assed link builder are over, and you'd better know what you're doing if you're going to take over responsibility for link building for another company's website. The tricks you could rely on are gone, and I take no satisfaction in seeing so much of what I've preached come true over the last 17 years. It's always been pretty obvious to the best link builders anyway, and I'm not pleased at all when I see a company suffer at the hands of...
