I had converted my off topic forum to xenforo from IPB. At the time my users wanted something simple. xenforo fit the bill so I converted. For the first couple weeks things were normal and the members seemed to be pleased. Then the moderators spoke up because some of the tools they needed to do there job like merge posts and users were no longer available. So I decided to convert back to IPB. The process was painless although there was some problems with importing attachments and avatars. These were fixed in later versions of the importer, but, when I did the import I had to use work arounds posted on the IPB forum. It took a couple times to get the import done complet…

I'm going to cry...literally. I don't know what is going on...I should have went with the philosophy..."If it ain't broke, don't fix it". So here's my stats before: Unique: ~50,000 Pages/visit: ~16 Pageviews/month: 30 million Bounce rate: ~28% (on good days 22%) Avg time on site: ~9min (as high as 12) After the conversion: Unique: <30,000 Pages/visit: 5 Pageviews/month: ? don't know yet Bounce rate: 50% (has reached over 60% one day) Avg time on site: ~5min The only weird thing is...my most online ever has reached about 3,500 from yesterday and it was set to 15 minutes. On vb, it was set to 20 minutes and reach just below 3,000. …

I have two questions. 1. I have seen it mentioned but cant find it on here, how do I set up the 301 redirects for my current set up to point to the ipboard install? I dont want to lose my currently indexed pages. 2. It is very important for me to have domain.com/username or at the very least domain.com/forum/username. I understand ipboard puts the userID number into the URL, but since vbulletin does not I dont want those links to die, plus for the type of site I am setting up it looks better. I have over 40,000 members and do not want each member having to remember their userID when they give their profile URL out. So basically this is a must for me. Any tips? Th…

Hi, My name is Brian Tinsley and I am the owner/founder of the aorticdissection.com/Forums site. I started this site out in 2005 to help others. I am ready for a change, I am sick of the vBulletin board as it's just not user friendly in my opinion. I had one heck of a time upgrading from 4.02 to 4.03 only to think that I wanted this skin that I purchased that said it required 4.03. So, to make a long story short, I found this site and the owner's blog and he seems to know what is going on with this board and SEO integration. I am wondering if I could get help in migrating my present VBulletin site over to an IPB board and then get help with adding my Google adsense to…

Create a new database and import the dump into the new database. Then install the converter app and set it up to import the data. Once you have the sites merged you can setup redirects to get the merged users to the site. You could use the splash page if you wanted, but, it is better to redirect to the new site and put up a welcome notice for the members so they know what happened.

I know there have been some recent IPB converts who have switched their sites over from a different script, so I thought I might could get some insight. Years ago I converted a phpBB board to IPB. But I don't recall exactly how I did it. I think the phpBB forums were set up in a /forums directory and I installed IPB in /forum ran the conversion, and then deleted the /forums and then switched /forum to /forums [did that make sense?] But for my latest project I now need to convert a MyBB that is in the home directory to IPB. I have two thoughts on how maybe to get it done. Can you help me decide the best path? 1. Should I create a domain.com/forum and install the n…

If you use another product such as vBulletin or phpBB and want to discus the differences between Invision Community Forum and your current product then use this forum to ask your questions. If you recently converted let us know how your conversion went.

Well, timing was terrible. IPB support was very slow and it took my site 2-3 days to get converted. On top of that, they didn't even do the things I needed them to do like redirect all old URL's (vbseo urls) to the new ones. It took me 8 hours to get everything redirecting properly since I'm not a htaccess pro and there were 2 different "old vb" databases and I happened to be trying to use the one that wouldn't allow redirects (yeah that sentence probably doesn't make much sense...it could if I showed pictures I guess...but I'm lazy now). So after hours and hours of trying to get everything to work, I succeeded...and then had to take a 2 hour nap before jumping on a…

The one feature I absolutely MISSSS!!!! is the subscribed threads and subscribed forums. The watched threads don't cut it for me. I want to only see which of the new threads have posts in them and I want an icon I can click to "view first unread". I don't like having to go to the first page, then click "last page", then scroll down. Too much time and too many useless clicks of the mouse. Am I missing some settings to enable this system to work more like what I'm use to? Or am I stuck with how it is? Even the box in the column for watched threads and topics doesn't show the threads with the newest posts on top... Sorry if this doesn't belong here...I thought i…

I just ran the converter going from vBulletin to IPB and it all went smoothly except for the attachments. My attachments are stored as files and I can browse to the directories to see they are all there but when I run the conversion it is only picking up 23 out of 91 attachments for some reason. Any idea's or tips?

I'm a refugee from vBulletin and am in the process of converting to IPB. After some difficulty, I was able to get all the members, forums, posts, and avatars into the new database. I ran the conversion for attachments and looking at the database, all 23,000 of them are there, but in the posts, I only see the old ATTACH12345ATTACH (with square brackets) where the pictures should be. I have flushed the cache, run all the cleanup utilities and played with it for hours, but can't seem to make it work. Anybody have some suggestions? Of course I picked the weekend to do this when IPB support is closed. <_<
