Google's algorithm has had another update, code-named Penguin. Why? Google's Spamfuhrer, Matt Cutts, explains in a blog post. Ahhh! To improve quality. Needn't have bothered reading that, need we? It is what he always says. What are the effects of Penguin on link-builders? Apparently: 1. Too much anchor-text optimisation will be discounted. If all of your inbound links have the anchor text, "real estate new york", then some of the link-juice will be discounted as unnatural. 2. Out-of-context links will be discounted. If you post on an SEO forum, but your sig-link says, "limo services chicago", then much of the link-juice will be discounted as unnatural. Will t…

I am thinking about the commenting on other pages, using Facebook as my own page, is this a good technique? Please also provide me with any other ways that you personally have discovered work well in promotion of a Facebook page. Much Thanks, BiologyWebmaster

  4. Ooooo this is good news. Quote: Twitter on Thursday gave privacy advocated a big win by announced a new “Do Not Track” setting that allows users to opt out of being tracked by Twitters platform. The plan was unveiled at an Internet Week panel in New York Thursday morning by chief technology officer for the Federal Trade Commission, Ed Felten. Twitter also revealed the new Do Not Track button, tweeting: “The Federal Trade Commission’s CTO, Ed Felten, just mentioned Twitter now supports Do Not Track. We applaud the FTC’s leadership on DNT.” Users can take advantage of the Do Not Track option using any browser that already support the option…

  5. Hey everybody, Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post. My website : http(colon)//bit.ly/Iu2pMI was recently (April 24th) tanked by Google. For 170 keywords I was dropped off the first 10 pages, while I was previously generally on the 2nd page, with about 20-30 terms appearing on the first page (and about 10 in #1). I am assuming this is because of my backlink profile, which I got from an SEO company that I used here on Freelancer. I do not know much about SEO, and could really use some help here. I was getting around 100-150 hits a day, and I haven't received a single one since the update. I am absolutely panicked and have no idea what to do now. …

  7. A company has approached me with the following question: Their website had a pagerank 5 on http, because they receive a lot of personal data from a form on their homepage, they put their website *on https and a 301 redirect from http to https. They are on position one for an competitive keyword. With the last pagerank update, they dropped to pagerank 0. They have a good link profile NO spam links. Their question is whether this is the reason for the decline and is there an solution for the https without the 301?

  8. Just like Google, Bing can do take down requests. Check out this blog post. Quote: Microsoft says it does send copyright-related takedown requests to its own search engine, Bing, in addition to the multitude of requests that it sends to Google. This comes on the heels of yesterdays news that Microsoft is the number one submitter of copyright-related URL removal requests to Google. It sent more than 500,000 such requests in the past month, asking Google to remove URLs that host pirated copies of Microsoft products and other copyright-infringing material. TechDirt pointed out that some of the URLs that Microsoft asked Google to remove were still…

  9. I'm sure a few folks who are new to twitter don't understand what are #hashtags so please don't respond if you know what they are. If you have anything to comment about on this blog post then please jump right in. Also this blog post will give you the history about how this term came to be known. Quote: Whenever a new Web trend comes along, there are people who ask, "What is the point of this?" If millions of people are using something, there has to be a reason. In our What Is the Point of... series, we'll explain it to you. This week, we're asking, What is the point of #hashtags? What Is a Hashtag? The hashtag was invented as a label for groups and topi…

  10. They trying to make you like Google+ by advertising it like crazy. Quote: Earlier this week, actor/Internet celebrity Wil Wheaton posted a pretty interesting rant about Google on his blog, and on his Tumblr. Specifically, it was about a feature he spotted on YouTube, which placed a Google+ like button in the spot where the YouTube thumbs up button would normally be. It would prompt users to upgrade to Google+ when not signed in. We asked Wheaton for some additional thoughts on the subject. He seemed somewhat eager to oblige, saying that this whole thing has struck a nerve. Continued at: http://www.webpronews.com/is-google-...hroats-201…

  12. Information from Bing's perspective about moving to a new domain: Quote: It makes you want to crawl under a rock. The day your boss comes to you and says Were looking at a new domain name. Can you help us move to it? Worse are the days like that which pass you by because no one ever came to you, and its only in the panic of dwindling search traffic that people darken your door to ask the resident SEOgre what happened. Bing - Moving domains: avoiding the pitfalls (hint: there's info on how they treat 301 permanent redirects)

  14. Be warned, this is very long and I'm not finished reading it yet. Grab a coffee first. Quote: In Keyword Clustering for Maximum Search Profitability we discussed the idea of clustering keywords and how doing so can increase the speed and effectiveness of your link building efforts. The article was based on the principle of passing internal strength between the pages of your website. Today we'll discuss this subject in more detail. Be warned, it'll involve a little bit of math (we are dealing with Google's algorithm after all, so there's almost always going to an element of that). That said, I'm going to do the math for you to provide what's mos…

  15. Take a look at the whole blog post before responding. It's a good blog post to get you thinking. Quote: Now that we've seen entire link building related companies vanish due to Pandas and Penguins and other search quality improvements from Google, my hunch is we will see a surge in freelance or solo link builders who decide to go it alone. I base this hunch on the number of emails I'm receiving from people seeking link building work. Besides those who are working solo, some link building companies are still thriving, doing things well, and looking for talent. But the days of being a half-assed link builder are over, and you'd better know what y…

  16. Quote: Just about any independent SEO worth their weight who publishes a number of websites has at least once hit a snag & been filtered or penalized. A person can say "not me" but how do they operate optimally in both the short term and long term if they never operate near limits or thresholds? But now that Google has begun actively penalizing sites for unnatural link profiles & tightening these thresholds, competitors have been giving one another shoves. Some of the most widely highlighted examples of crappy SEO were not attempts at SEO, but intentional competitive sabotage. Quote: Much like wealth, business…

Most of the webmaster/internet marketer/business owner will agree with me that their overall visitors as well as leads have been affected by the Penguin updates. My website (OrimarkProperties.com) is getting the same visitors in comparison with previous days, but the over leads of my website is decreasing. Also some of the keywords of my website are remain constant where as some keywords are fluctuating in Google SERP. Please share your views so that it will help to recover my website status with ease! Pretty good read, great help to have better branding using your corporate facebook fanpage: Quote: For example, a post by a cruise line marketer (Facebook did not disclose which brands exactly were involved in the study) stating I decided to go on my first cruise because ____, performed better than one that said, Hang in there everybody. Monday will be over before we know it. Topics related to brand or about the brand were significant predictors of increased engagement, says Sean Bruich, head of measurement at Facebook. When pages post about topics related to brands, they increase engagement. The advice may seem obvious, but Bruich points out that many bra…

Quote: Since its inception, social media giant Facebook has seen numerous changes to its layouts, and many useful features have been added. The most recent of these is the Timeline, which was introduced in December 2011. The Timeline arranges posts according to date, streamlining all materials, including status messages, pictures, videos, and other Facebook activities, showing a history of a Fan page. By now every company that utilizes Facebook for their social media networking has incorporated the Timeline. However, many might have been put off by the changes and not taken a look at…
