Well I heard that Community SEO was supposed to be good for IPB so I went ahead and bought it from their website. Turns out it gave me more problems than good as links didn't work and the file edit instructions were awful. I asked for help in the forums, via the Contact Us option and via their ticket system and didn't get any response. I asked for a refund via paypal and wow, they answered straight away and I got my money back. Even their website gave errors using their own software. I only asked for a refund as I had no joy with them at all. I then went to the free SEO software Minerva SEO and purchased the Sitemap generator. It works properly and i'm happy. ;-)…

Thx for that Mike, I hadn't noticed it. I'll get it fixed on ipbsetup as soon as I can. (when I get home tonight hopefully) and thanks for the blog link, I for one have been really impressed with IPB really wanting to know what we want. We may be new to IPB, but I think Matt knows that we have some good knowledge about what make a good forum from our vbulletin background.

Slowly but surely, I am discovering some files and template changes to help with SEO on IPB. One trick many of us former vBulletin admins used was to remove the forum name from the forum display and show thread templates. And this can also be accomplished for IPB, only it will require you to edit a couple of PHP files, instead. The first file you will want to edit is /admin/applications/forums/modules_public/forums/forums.php Find the following - $this->registry->getClass('output')->setTitle( $this->settings['board_name'] . ' -> ' . $this->forum['name'] ); Change it to - $this->registry->getClass('output')->setTitle( $this->…

This is in a zip you can download here by our good friend patrick o'keefe of Managing online forums. He has some great info on the site and also a book, which I've read through. Excellent stuff! Copyright Infringement: Text Hello <USERNAME>, Thank you for visiting <<YOUR SITE'S NAME>>. Unfortunately, I have had to remove your post quoted below as it violated our User Guidelines as copyright infringement. When quoting an article or written work that you did not author or do not have permission to reproduce (which is our assumption in this case - if it is incorrect, please let us know and include some way for us to verify this fact), yo…

When you’re just starting out as a business owner it’s easy to become wrapped up in the seemingly endless number of metrics you *need* to pay attention to in order to determine the success of your business. However, the problem with following a lot of metrics is that it can become very easy to not pay close attention to any of them, and isn’t the whole point of following metrics so that you know exactly what’s going on with your startup? Metrics have the potential to offer a ton of insight into your successes and failures, but only if you know which ones to track without getting overwhelmed. That’s why we’ve compiled this list of 10 important marketing metrics t…

Removing the "no permission" buttons from the top of the pages will increase what is displayed in your SERP's. This also helps the search engines get to your content faster, and by having less code to read before the actual start of your threads/posts. Removing these two buttons is a simple task and only takes a few minutes. First we're going to do this for the forum viewing template (where you see the list of threads) Login to your Admin Area System -> Look & Feel -> Manage Templates -> Forum View -> forumIndexTemplate Locate and remove <else /> <li class='disabled'><span>{$this->lang->words['forum_no_star…

1. Multiple indexes for the board. vBSEO had a nice option to make all of them forward to what you wanted. Right now I have /forums/, /forums/index, /forums/index.php, /forums/index.php?, and I believe there may be a few others like index.php/index or something, I forget what I've seen but it was disturbing. Has anyone created an htaccess file or a mod that would reconcile it to 1 URL? 2. Sitemap - which is the best site map to use? Someone mentioned Spanner's sitemap to me and said it will be the best one once they upgrade. They also mentioned communityseo's sitemap is terrible. And then I saw a paid one: icelabz.net/sitemap So I really don't know which one to …

I check Facebook a few times a day, but I also use it to see what my family and friends are doing online. I have fan pages for all my sites, and they all need some work. I think the Sheley Enterprises one looks the best ATM. You can setup your own HTML pages with tabs up top of your fan page, that's how I put my images and social media info. I just have a table setup right now, but I want to see if it'll read CSS as well. So do you use Facebook, and if you do, than do you use it for personal or business? *[source] /monthly_12_2009/post-101-13382266807166_thumb.jpg

There’s a lot that you can do with an htaccess file, and of course, things can get pretty advanced in a hurry. Here, we’re going to keep things pretty simple. These are the 10 basic htaccess hacks that every webmaster should know. 1. Force Caching with htaccess Use: The following htaccess code won’t help the initial pageload, but it will significantly help subsequent pageloads by sending 304 status when requested elements haven’t been modified. FileETag MTime Size ExpiresActive on ExpiresDefault “access plus x seconds†I generally set the cache for one day (86400 seconds). You can also set different expirations for each file type by breaking e…
