Well I heard that Community SEO was supposed to be good for IPB so I went ahead and bought it from their website. Turns out it gave me more problems than good as links didn't work and the file edit instructions were awful. I asked for help in the forums, via the Contact Us option and via their ticket system and didn't get any response. I asked for a refund via paypal and wow, they answered straight away and I got my money back. Even their website gave errors using their own software. I only asked for a refund as I had no joy with them at all. I then went to the free SEO software Minerva SEO and purchased the Sitemap generator. It works properly and i'm happy. ;-)…

Slowly but surely, I am discovering some files and template changes to help with SEO on IPB. One trick many of us former vBulletin admins used was to remove the forum name from the forum display and show thread templates. And this can also be accomplished for IPB, only it will require you to edit a couple of PHP files, instead. The first file you will want to edit is /admin/applications/forums/modules_public/forums/forums.php Find the following - $this->registry->getClass('output')->setTitle( $this->settings['board_name'] . ' -> ' . $this->forum['name'] ); Change it to - $this->registry->getClass('output')->setTitle( $this->…

On my forums, I have an Administrator (me), a Vice-Administrator with limited administration capabilities, Moderators (technically they are global moderators), and Staff Members who moderate specific forums. What do you all use as your staff structure?

1. Multiple indexes for the board. vBSEO had a nice option to make all of them forward to what you wanted. Right now I have /forums/, /forums/index, /forums/index.php, /forums/index.php?, and I believe there may be a few others like index.php/index or something, I forget what I've seen but it was disturbing. Has anyone created an htaccess file or a mod that would reconcile it to 1 URL? 2. Sitemap - which is the best site map to use? Someone mentioned Spanner's sitemap to me and said it will be the best one once they upgrade. They also mentioned communityseo's sitemap is terrible. And then I saw a paid one: icelabz.net/sitemap So I really don't know which one to …

There are some things that I miss with vBSEO that I was wondering if we can hard code them into our templates/files. I know I'm not very smart with this stuff so I hope someone is up to the challenge. 1. Relevant replacements - I think these were the best thing ever. 2. Virtual HTML Display 3. Clean up html Also, I really liked briansol's guide to setting up vBSEO and would like a similar format to the URL's that he set up (which is pretty similar to how vbseo's url's are now I believe). Just wondering if that's possible with IPB's FURL. Please note, I'm in the conversion process as we speak so I haven't had the time to check it out :/ Just figured I would…

What do you think, is youtube a social network site? I personally think it is. But instead of posting images and text, youtubers post videos.

Thx for that Mike, I hadn't noticed it. I'll get it fixed on ipbsetup as soon as I can. (when I get home tonight hopefully) and thanks for the blog link, I for one have been really impressed with IPB really wanting to know what we want. We may be new to IPB, but I think Matt knows that we have some good knowledge about what make a good forum from our vbulletin background.

Are you using social media sites like Digg, Stumbleupon, Redit, Technorati, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and the countless others to market and grow your site to your select niche? If you are, how is each one performing, and do you track how well their traffic converts compared to other sources, such as search engines, or referrals from other sites.

I searched "window" and "nofollow" in the admin live search and found the toggle enable posted links to open in a new window as well as removed the nofollow attribute in posted links! B) I like the live search, I wish vBulletin had something like that.
